You guys, Penguin - the Penguin - sent me an actual box FULL of bookwormy stuff. But I'm getting ahead of myself. So, I've had a pretty busy few weeks. And as a result I've totally neglected you babes. All of the sorries, all of the time. I just haven't been this tired since I was a teenager - the time when all my nutritional intake had to come from my mother's six-days-a-week bolognese, sickly sweet blue energy drinks, and Dunhill Lights (*shiver*).
But I'm slowly crawling my way out of the big bulk of work I've been labouring under, and I've reemerged to give you this groovy news! Penguin sent me stuff. Look at all this glorious, nerdy stuff, darling! Those biscuits have my name on them, for goodness sake! How lovely? Now, Penguin aren't, that I know of, in the habit of sending presents out on a whim to people at random. I got these presents because I'm part of the killer budding-publicist program, The Scheme.
It's easily been the most fascinating interview process I've ever been a part of. First we were all tasked with answering some thought-provoking questions on what we've perceived to be a good marketing campaign of late. I chose to chat about this baller goosebump-inducing H&M ad, featuring Lion Babe and her 'She's A Lady' cover. Girl power, baby!
We then had to come up with a campaign around a book published over five years ago. I chose Simone de Beauvoir's The Second Sex, and pitched a feminist girl gang revival for young feminists who would be interested in, but not necessarily familiar with de Beavoir's work. I designed merch, did research on the campaign's audience, and in the end, managed to piece together a video presentation worthy of a callback for the final round. Yay!
And it looks like it's going to be BIG. I've got instructions to check out all the details online ahead of our London meet-up in July. Exciting stuff, right? But honestly, if it didn't go any further than where I am right now, I'd still be full up on glee. I mean, cookies with MY OWN NAME ON THEM?
