HI-TEC HIKE SQUAD (Pt. 1): NEWLANDS FOREST
Last week Saturday, eighteen people gathered on a chilly morning to form the first meeting of the Hi-Tec Hike Squad. Those that braved cold and the threat of rain, were greeted by an already-bustling forest, proving that even as dedicated squad members, we have a lot to learn.
In session was a mixed bunch from all walks of life. Youtubers, Grant, Chris, Warren, and Byron, writers Anade and Luke, accountant Unam, occupational therapist Kaitlyn, bloggers, Sam, and Leigh, developers Warren and Wayne, and videographer, Chris. All of these and more became the first members of Toofufu's Hi-Tec Hike Squad that Saturday.
Before the grey morning was at its end, steps were walked, laughs were shared, selfies were taken, and everyone felt a bit better for being in the woods and not still in bed - a good a reason as any for slipping on some hiking boots.
I was dressed in Hi-Tec's Moon Shell Softshell jacket and Langdale Sports W kicks, provided by their awesome marketing team that made extra sure that all the gear sent to me was cruelty-free. We also partnered up with Faithful to Nature to bring each squad member a pocket guide to safe shopping. You can check out their blog for more green tips, recipes, and eco-friendly info.
The next squad meeting will take place next month, we'd love to see you there. In the mean time, have a look through these photos taken by Grant Hinds and Chris Taljaard, and let me know what you think of our first hike. Would be great to hear if we've inspired other hiking collectives, or if you plan on joining future HTHS hikes. Until then, ta!
